Phuze Cafe- King St, Newtown

March 29th 2006 13:17
Well after the Weird Weekend that Was I was in serious need of some quiet time. Bad day, stress over timetables, stress over potential job, stress over bizarre relationship triangle. So when Mr. X called and said lets get coffee, I was willing to go along.

Phuze is a fairly cute little café nice and close at the bottom end of King St. Mr. X and I had been there before a few months ago.. I vaguely remember ordering nachos that were in the mid-range… nice, but there are nicer for the price. This time he ordered a flat white which I presume was drinkable since it was drunk. I had my customary mocha… mmm, the sweetness of hot chocolate and the buzz of caffeine. It was fine though a little flavourless- too much milk and water, not enough of the good stuff.

We ended up splitting wedges, and such a pleasant surprise. For $5 we got a big soup-bowl-full along with a tea-cup of jumbled sour cream and sweet chilli sauce. Considering the time-delay and lack of congealed grease I’d judge they were freshly cooked, hot and yummy. And delivered by the chef himself wearing the little pouffy hat. We had a moment of pity thinking he was wasting his culinary talents, but soon forgot and ate.

The décor was pleasant but strange, everything squeezed into a long hall-type shape. We sat at the back, right at the end. Poorly lit, but it lent an atmosphere that was dark, quiet, secluded and actually restful. Perfect for late-afternoon laziness

And by midnight..

March 29th 2006 13:14
Ok, I'll admit it, I have performance anxiety. So far I've only dabbled my toes, because if I write anything substantial someone very observant might actually see into something resembling my soul.. scary thought! No don't ask me how toe-dabbling averts soul-searching - it's a mixed-up metaphor.

But I do want to write something (I just typed 'don't' egads! freudian slipping already). Yes, anyway, -something- and for that you need to know who Mr.X is. Isn't it clever? *cough* He just loves that pseudonym, what with the need for anonymity and the Simpsons and the fact that he actually is my ex.. only he's still 'around' and stumbling into my adventures. But when we take a break from adventures he's a good person to drag to cafes with me, which I can then tell you all about.

Oh, and as for the 'weekend' so mysteriously alluded to, that's a
much longer (and more fascinating) story to be posted soon.

The whys and wherefores

March 29th 2006 12:20
Let's start at the very beginning... a very good place to start.

People may wonder (perfectly legitimately) what on earth I shall be writing about here.. tricky question! Is it cheating to put 'Life, The Universe, and Everything'? No? I need to qualify?
